Benefits of Blood Testing
Blood testing offers insights into a person’s overall health, identifies any markers or areas of concern, and can help inform accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
Common blood tests we offer:
Complete Blood Count Tests (CBC)
This test provides information about the number and types of blood cells in your body, and can help detect conditions such as anemia, infections, and certain blood disorders.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panels (CMP)
This panel measures various aspects of your blood to help assess overall organ function and detect conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, and liver problems.
Lipid Panels
Measures cholesterol levels, including total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (known as “bad” cholesterol), HDL cholesterol (known as “good” cholesterol), and triglycerides, to help assess heart health and identify any risks for heart disease.
Thyroid Function Tests
Measures thyroid hormone levels to evaluate the health of the thyroid gland and diagnose conditions like hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
Blood Glucose Tests
Measures blood sugar levels and is commonly used to screen for (or monitor) diabetes.
Steps in the Blood Testing Process
STEP 1 - Consultation:
Your visit starts with a consultation with your licensed medical provider who will assess your symptoms, medical history, and reason for the blood test to help them determine the appropriate test(s) to order.
STEP 2 - Blood sample collection:
A healthcare professional will then collect a blood sample from your body based on the specific test(s) ordered.
STEP 3 - Laboratory analysis:
The collected blood sample sent to an outside laboratory for results. Blood work results at Prime Urgent Care are usually back the next business day.
STEP 4 - Result interpretation:
Once results are back, they are reviewed by your medical provider who will interpret them based on your medical history, symptoms, and/or the reason for the tests ordered. This can involve determining a diagnosis, developing a treatment plan, discussing any medical implications, or necessary follow-up actions.
No Insurance? No Problem!
For patients who prefer to pay for medical care out-of-pocket, Prime Urgent Care offers affordable self-pay rates for all services and diagnostic testing we provide.
Initial examinations start at just $100 plus the cost of any blood test(s) ordered. If you need blood work now and don’t have a health insurance plan or have high deductibles are your current plan, just walk-in to the nearest Prime Urgent Care clinic in Pearland, Missouri City, and Sugar Land.
Preparing for Blood Work
Properly preparing for basic blood work is essential for accurate results, so follow these important instructions to get ready for your blood test(s):
- Fasting requirements: Generally, avoid drinking or eating anything besides water for 8-12 hours before blood work.
- Medication restrictions: Critical to disclose the medications or supplements you are taking to your doctor as they may interfere with the test results.
- Hydration: Staying hydrated helps make blood draws easier as veins are often more visible.
